A large Polynesian priest waving a scepter made of mother of pearl to host Alexandra and Nicolas. Both Madrid tourists on honeymoon in Bora Bora, and they decided to seal their union four meters underwater.

This is the first marriage submarine in the lagoon. In Bora Bora, wedding organizers usually extravagant requests. Some are married to draw "will you marry me" in the sky by an airplane before the window of their bungalow. Other privatize a "motu" (Polynesian island) in order to bring a hundred guests from across the world.

Today is a bit different: the boss of the thirteen Top Dive Diving clubs in Polynesia, Paul Ramos, wanted to "reproduce underwater codes earthly marriage" to couples who have sometimes never put his head under water.

Alexandra and Nicolas put on their white wedding suit. They leave their bridal canoe to immerse themselves in the lagoon. "I guess it's like walking for the first time on the moon" is Nicolas enthusiasm. Her outfit also reminiscent of a cosmonaut: place him a white helmet on the head. It is supplied with air from the surface. No way to marry flippers and diving bottles.

Advantage: the bride stay dry hair, it can even keep her crown of flowers, and the faces are not deformed by masks. Through their headphones, the priest and the couple together after the place of the ceremony.

A sweet voice invites them to join the altar. On the moon not by four meters deep, they advance on a path lined with coral cores and white flowers. The chapel is materialized by a bubble curtain around two Pomare armchairs, the Polynesian royal seats.

35% TOURISTS IN HONEYMOON

They express their mutual consent by a thumbs-up, with some clown fish and a fish-picasso for witnesses. The moment they pass the alliances pearl, a gray line undulates elegantly around the couple. Tomorrow may be a harmless black tip shark lagoon or a manta ray, the queen of Polynesian lagoons.

If they are sensitive to marine ecology, married can plant a piece of coral near the chapel. An engraved pearl names will identify their coral, which "will grow as their love" according to Mark Reutenauer, the ceremony organizer.

After twenty minutes of ceremony, the couple goes back on her bridal canoe. The priest turns into a ukulele player and sings a romantic song in Tahitian. He accompanied them on a motu, where they are enjoying some champagne flutes on a deserted beach, facing the lagoon and Mount Otemanu, the iconic peak of Bora Bora.

The ceremony is about $ 3800, a little more if we add the traditional lunch on the motu. Not prohibitive for tourists from Four Seasons or St. Regis, two of the most luxurious hotels on the island, rated 5 stars, where the night can still cost much more.

Bora Bora has fewer than 10 000 but 826 hotel rooms in 11 hotels, mostly of bungalows and beachfront, and honeymooners honeymoon is one of the priority targets of hotel. The island attracts Hollywood stars, but also the American and Japanese wealthy couples with five 5-star hotels and three 4 star hotels.

Bora Bora, called the "Pearl of the Pacific", welcomed last year more than half of the 173,000 tourists visiting French Polynesia, yet rich 121 islands and atolls. Thirty-five percent of them were on their honeymoon.
